In 2018 when Sir D first started testing the Bigeye plug in saltwater, it wasn’t long before an idea emerged: there must be some variation in weight to achieve neutral buoyancy in all waters accessible by saltwater species such as striped bass. Since then, Sir D has been able to build custom weighted plugs on a case by case basis for any anglers fishing primarily in brackish (or entirely freshwater), as well as advising existing customers on how to adjust the rigged terminal tackle according to the waters they travel between. The demand for a lightweight version of the v3 bigeye has grown and adjustments have been made to the assembly process to allow larger batches to be made.
So 2026 brings a “freshwater tuned” version of the v3 Bigeye, with internal weight removed and redistributed to bring the same swimming action AND neutral buoyancy for anglers fishing in rivers and lakes. Plugs built to this specification will be marked SF, as saltwater anglers can still utilize these plugs in extremely skinny waters.
Bigeye Swimming Plugs are rigged with quality hooks and split rings, and are weight balanced upon rigging for optimal performance in the water.
