Sir Defied Pro Series Bucktails can be best described with one word: Rugged. Starting with ultra-strong Mustad hooks, adding multiple trailer options proven to add enticing action and draw more strikes, and finally hand tied by Sir D himself in a standard array of colors known to attract the attention of predatory fish. These bucktails deliver the best value to anglers while maintaining the high performance and quality that Sir Defied Baits is known to deliver. Limited edition colors will be released periodically.
What Sir D says about the Pro Series:
It is no secret that the bucktail jig is the single most utilized striper lure in the Northeast, and I can't think of a single time in over twenty years that I haven't carried them with me into the surf. While every angler grows to prefer certain weight/profile/color jigs depending on the waters they fish, there is one thing all anglers agree on- bucktails with weak hooks are the absolute worst. At Sir Defied we have bent our fair share of jig hooks, and still year over year we continue to hook some of our biggest fish on bucktail jigs! In the Northeast, striped bass in the 40lb class are quick to make even decently strong hooks turn to limp noodles. In our “pursuit of perfection” finding a bucktail jig we could put our stamp on was soaring to the top of the list, and I ultimately decided to source the ingredients for both a “value-conscious” and a “zero-compromises” configuration, creating the Pro and Elite series of bucktail jigs. While there are certainly differences, they share a baseline criteria that all sizes/shapes/styles will utilize hooks strong enough to handle the biggest inshore species you can reach from the shoreline.
While designing the pro series, I poured jig heads using dozens of hook models and hardware combinations, in all sorts of mold types before I narrowed down the options that gave anglers the best value, while still meeting that basic criteria. Using three Mustad hooks (depending on size and style) the bucktails were put to the test on the water over a two year period, and the jigs held up to everything we could catch with them, including striped bass over 50lbs. While considered the “value” option, these bucktails are still “Pro” grade in every way. Make no mistake- these are still stronger bucktail jigs than you will find on store shelves anywhere on the eastern seaboard.
Happy fishing! -Sir D
